The Inside and Outside Pin-Ups of Molly Kiely

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Molly Kiely was the first all-empowering, all sex-positive, cartoonist I read, and considering I worked for an erotic comics retailer, I’ve read THEM. ALL. Molly Kiely stands alone as her own awesome stake in the world of Comics, Feminism, Porn, Erotica, Black and White Art, and Sex Positive Empowerment.

She blew my mind with “Diary of a Dominatrix” and “That Kind of Girl” in the 90s and early 00s. Now I’ve found her on flickr, doing gorgeous pin ups and photography of the gorgeous Molly Kiely in the flesh!

The face-blowing-off art of Libby Bulloff

Monday, August 10th, 2009

I first noticed this woman’s art b/c she took amazing photos of my friends Maxx and Kristan.

So then I followed her flickr and Etsy store and started worshipping her eye for color, costume, people, and light.

Then I saw her in person at M&K’s wedding and was struck by her 4th-dimensional hair and awesome steampunk finery!

THEN her flickr linked me to her amazing blog full of organic whole foods recipies, beautiful sparkly people, and some of the most inspiring art I’ve been privleged to.

 Thank you Libby!

Spring theme: A New Hope

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

I took a walk around my neighborhood, Capitol Hill, yesterday, and took these pix of spring and the dawning of a new day. I couldn’t be more thrilled about the new direction America is headed.

I simply have to, to see these amazing costumes IRL. I can’t stop staring at the costumes in these photos! How were they made? Who designed them? Look at this HAIR!

My Favorite Artist

In Seattle and possibly the world, right now, is Una Feral. You might see her work on the street tagged SirKullay

Makes me realize my favorite artists, when not a cartoonist, tend to be outsider women. She makes me reel with joy from her steampunk jewelry to her poignant street art.

On Artist’s Dayjobs

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Like many artists before me I have a dayjob. I really lucked out with my current gig - I temp at Microsoft as a web editor/designer/writer, and sometimes using words and screenshots to make a User Guide feels a lot like comics (although I still don’t get to draw the screenshots)

Anyways the longer I work there the cooler I think it is, they really let me use my skills and gifts to make things better. I haven’t ‘drunk the kool-aid’ but I might have nibbled on a fruit plate. So I’m SO EXCITED to be getting a Microspotting T-Shirt (Microspotting.com is currently featuring my amazing friend John a.k.a. Terrene) from Ariel Meadow Stallings, I’ll post a picture soon. Meanwhile I’ll post a pic montage of the inspiration I see around me.

Photo comix!

My e-pal and incredible puppetteer Shadow Circus posted some photo comics last night starring his beautiful girlfriend Bella Trixx and pets in superhero gear. Swoon! I’m so inspired to do something like this!
